Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are you a school bus contractor?
Absolutely not. We don't own school buses and we don't employ drivers. We have no affiliation with, or against, any contractors.
  • Can you save us money? . . . And how fast?
Yes we can save you money, sometimes a lot of money. At any level of engagement, we identify opportunities for efficiency while maintaining - often improving - service levels. We rarely encounter a situation where there are no opportunities to reduce operating costs while still maintaining or improving service levels.
Cost reduction can happen immediately from reducing driver hours and overtime, retiring excess buses, or consolidating bus runs. More dramatic savings can arise in the next school year with strategically planned school bell times, better transportation program definition, and adopting sound routing practices.
  • Do you only work with large school districts?
No. TransPar assists school districts of all sizes throughout the country. Issues can be large or small, numerous or few, chronic or acute.
  • How do you do it? Are you consultants or system managers?
We are industry experts who perform either on a consultative basis or in a full-time management role in the district’s transportation department. Districts usually bring us in first as consultants; sometimes they later ask us to help implement solutions or act as system managers.
  • How does the typical engagement work?
The process is collaborative; we talk with you and develop a clear understanding of the district's unique situation and needs. We provide you a scope of work and a fee estimate. We then visit with your staff to learn about your operation. We apply our proprietary, proven analyses and time-tested tools and tactics to arrive at a tailored solution, not a punch list or template. We present you with a set of findings and recommendations and, if desired, provide assistance with implementation.
  • How is TransPar compensated?
We typically quote a fixed fee based on the scope of services requested by the client. Alternative fee arrangements can be quoted.
  • Our district currently uses a contractor, so why would we need TransPar?
Contracted transportation presents the same daily operational and management challenges as a district-operated fleet, such as routing, on-time delivery, efficiency and cost control. Our proven solutions address the same problems, regardless of who's causing them. We ensure the responsiveness of contractors, the satisfaction of patrons and new levels of system efficiency. This can be accomplished by a variety of ways such a strategically drafted RFP, a transportation contract and biling audit, or by imposing a simple and foolproof data management model.
  • Our district does all transportation in-house, so why should we use TransPar?
Safety, efficiency, service and performance are all that matter in student transportation, no matter who provides the service or manages the operation. Our solutions, tools and tactics reduce operating costs and bring professional, expert management to any district transportation department or district-operated fleet.
  • What does TransPar Group do?
TransPar is a team of experienced pupil transportation professionals who help school districts and other governmental entities run more effective, efficient transportation operations and free up more resources for educational programs.
  • What kind of savings can our district expect?
We have saved districts anywhere from 1-20 percent on their operating costs, depending on the degree to which districts implement the solutions we recommend. Our history has shown that for every $1,000 invested with TransPar, districts see an average of $10,000 in return. If a specific level of savings is mandated by the district, then TransPar will identify the action items required to achieve those savings.
